The Kingdom of Lisab is a very large, safe nation, notable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 68 million are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."
The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt, moralistic morass -- juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Defence, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 41%, but much higher for the wealthy. A robust private sector is dominated by the Automobile Manufacturing industry.
Gambling is outlawed, the mining industry is making inroads into environmentally sensitive areas, euthanasia is illegal, and naturists are jailed regularly for indecent exposure. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Lisab's national animal is the polar bear, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the crystal.
