The Empire of Vectoterainia is a small, economically powerful nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 12 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.
The medium-sized government concentrates mainly on Social Welfare, although Defence and Education are on the agenda. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 16%. A large private sector is led by the Gambling, Book Publishing, and Automobile Manufacturing industries.
Voting is compulsory, euthanasia is illegal, Vectoterainia's children are widely acknowledged as the most foul-mouthed in the region, and military spending is on the increase. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low. Vectoterainia's national animal is the veggie, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the vecto.
