The Rogue Nation of Istanbool is a very large, safe nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its compassionate, cynical population of 176 million are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although Social Welfare and Defence are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 76%, and even higher for the wealthy. A large private sector is dominated by the Automobile Manufacturing industry.
Loans are available for students from poor families, there's a shortage of swinging hot spots as land development grinds to a halt, several citizens have complained about scientists abducting their pets for experimentation, and the nation has opened its arms to an influx of refugees. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Istanbool's national animal is the lynx, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the pendum.
