Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.
The small government devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Welfare and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 4%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Cheese Exports, Book Publishing, and Beef-Based Agriculture industries.
Voting is voluntary, euthanasia is legal, corporations donate huge sums of money to favored politicians, and the government is avowedly atheist. Crime is a problem. Julius Caesar Jr's national animal is the roman eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the silver denarius.
